Deadly Fire Rips Through Paris Apartment Complex

Ten people have died, including a baby, and more than thirty others are injured after a fire tore through a building in Paris. 

Police believe it is from an act of arson, and one woman has been detained.

PM May Tries to Calm Irish Border Fears

UK Prime Minister Theresa May is in Northern Ireland, trying to reassure people she is working to get a deal that will prevent a hard border.

Germania Airlines files for bankruptcy

German airline Germania announced that it has filed for bankruptcy and would cease operations immediately. 

The company, which caters to holiday makers, blamed fuel price increases and a strong dollar for its problems.

India records over 200 swine flu deaths in 2019

An outbreak of the H1N1 virus in India has claimed 226 lives this year. 

Over 6000 people have tested positive for the virus so far- with the Indian state of Rajasthan reporting the most number of cases.

MAY TO NORTHERN IRELAND

UK Prime Minister Theresa May's visiting Northern Ireland (on Tuesday) as she seeks a Brexit deal that can avoid a hard border with Ireland.

She'll tell business leaders there a deal can be secured that can win a majority in Parliament as well as EU backing.

So far the EU has insisted it will not renegotiate the already-agreed Irish border backstop solution in the Withdrawal Agreement.

But Mrs May needs to win changes to it to gain the backing of enough of her Conservative MPs.

Former US Senator George Mitchell - who was heavily involved in the Northern Ireland peace process - says all sides need to take care with the issue.

Russian tourists in baby dangling video outrage

A video showing a man throwing his baby in the air in front of a crowd of onlookers has gone viral, and led to outrage around the world. The man and his wife are reportedly from Russia and appear to be attempting to busk for the crowds, by dangling their child in dangerous ways. Dan Ashby has more.

UN says North Korea's missile programme is intact

The United Nations says North Korea's ballistic missile programme remains intact and the country is defying UN sanctions.

A report to the 15-member U.N. Security Council sanctions committee comes ahead of a second planned summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un later this month.

European Countries Recognize Venezuelan Opposition Leader

Seven European countries  have officially recognised opposition leader Juan Guaido as interim president of Venezuela. 

This comes after Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro rejected the deadline they set for new elections.

US immigration official arrest rapper 21 Savage saying he is British

A Grammy-nominated rapper who professes to be American has been arrested by US immigration officials who say he is actually from the UK.

Officials say 21 Savage, whose given name is Shayaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, came to the US as a child in 2005 and failed to leave when his visa expired a year later.

RECOVERY OPERATION AFTER SALA PLANE FOUND

The Air Accident Investigation Branch has taken over the recovery operation after the plane carrying footballer Emiliano Sala was located.

The Piper Malibu aircraft was found by a privately-funder search.

India protests detention of students in the United States

India has lodged a strong diplomatic protest with the US embassy in New Delhi following the detention of 129 Indian students for enrolling in a fake American university.

US to send aid to Venezuela

The US says it's sending humanitarian aid to Venezuela following a requet from Juan Guaido, the opposition leader recognised by the Trump administration as interim president.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has long rejected aid as a Trojan horse for foreign intervention. President Trump reiterated over the weekend that military intervention in Venezuela is "an option".
