U.S. deaths linked to Polar Vortex rise

At least 16 people are now believed to have died as freezing Arctic
weather batters large parts of the United States.

Temperatures in Chicago have dropped to as low as minus 30 degree
celsius and an estimated 90 million Americans are experiencing weather
of minus 17 or below.

Venezuelan opposition leader writes in NYT that he's held secret meetings with military


Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido says he's held secret meetings with the country's military in his effort to oust President Nicolas Maduro.

Theresa May seeks to woo rebel Labour MPs with promises of investment for Brexit votes

Seoul responds to Washington skepticism on Kim's promises

South Korea says it will keep working to achieve a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula. This, after Washington's intelligence chief said it's unlikely North Korea will ever give up its nuclear weapons.

Skepticism is growing North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will dismantle his coveted nuclear weapons program.


But Seoul is trying to brush off any negativity.


The South Korean foreign ministry says diplomacy will continue with Pyongyang and lead to a peninsula free of nuclear weapons.


The remarks from Seoul come after U.S. director of National Intelligence Dan Coats said it's unlikely North Korea will ever give up its nuclear weapons.


His comments reportedly enraged President Trump, who's preparing to meet leader Kim for a second summit before the end of next month.

Emiliano Sala search boat arrives

A seabed search boat which will be used in a bid to find the missing plane carrying footballer Emiliano Sala has arrived in Guernsey.

The Argentine striker was flying his new club in Wales from France when the aircraft disappeared over the English Channel last week.

Swine flu outbreak claims 160 lives in India

An outbreak of the H1N1 virus has claimed 160 lives in India since the start of the year, government data shows.

EU REJECTS NEW BREXIT NEGOTIATIONS

The European Union says British Prime Minister Theresa May will not be able to renegotiate the Irish backstop in the Brexit deal agreed with Brussels.

Mrs May insists she has a 'mandate' to change the backstop arrangements in the Withdrawal Agreement - after parliamentary votes in London on Tuesday.

But at the European Parliament, the EU's chief negotiator Michel Barnier, and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker both insisted there would be no further negotiations on the Brexit divorce deal.

US China trade talks resume

The US and China have resumed talks aimed at finding an end to the trade war.

Brexit: PM defends plans to renegotiate Irish backstop

The UK Prime Minister has clashed with Britain's leader of the opposition over the government's latest plans for Brexit.


It comes as the British government is seeking to reopen negotiations with Brussels over the contentious issue of the Irish border backstop, though the EU say they are not wiling to revisit this.
