U.S. sanctions three senior N. Korean officials

The United States has imposed sanctions on three North Korean officials. Washington says it's sanctioning the men over North Korea's censorship and human rights abuses.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin says the sanctions demonstrate ongoing U.S. support for freedom of expression.

The sanctions freeze the North Korean officials' property or interests in the U.S. and ban transactions with U.S. citizens.

Kim Jong-un's reported number two, Choe Ryong-hae, is one of the targets.

But experts see this is a symbolic move considering North Korea is already heavily sanctioned.

Washington and Pyongyang are currently deadlocked in talks over Kim's weapons program.

It was thought a visit by Kim to Seoul this year could help smooth the way for more talks.

But there's no word from North Korea he's preparing to cross the border.
