May continues to try to sell Brexit deal with defeat looming

British Prime Minister Theresa May says she's exploring ways to avoid falling into the backstop arrangement for Northern Ireland just days before a crucial vote on her Brexit deal that she looks set to lose.

Around one hundred MPs have vowed to vote against her Brexit withdrawal agreement next week, many concerned that if the UK ever enters the backstop arrangement, it cannot exit it without permission from the European Union.    From London,  Catherine Drew reports.

UK MPs DEBATE BREXIT'S ECONOMIC EFFECTS

UK lawmakers are debating Brexit's economic effects, as time runs out ahead of a vote on Theresa May's deal with Brussels on Tuesday.

As the Commons debate continues, the UK government is working behind the scenes on solutions to try and win support from skeptical MPs.

Theresa May currently looks set to lose next week's Brexit vote - and would then be under significant pressure to resign.

She says her deal delivers on the result of the Brexit referendum and is committed to getting it through the Commons.

Chancellor Philip Hammond is warning it's impossible to predict what will happen if it's voted down.

South Korea's military says it's been closely monitoring the North Korean missile base with the U.S.

But it refused to comment further about news reports.

Citing a U.S. research institute, CNN reported satellite imagery shows the base has been active before and after this year's summit between President Donald Trump and leader Kim Jong-un.

The report says the base could house long-range missiles capable of striking the U.S.

North Korea has never promised this year to fully halt its weapons development.

But analysts suggest the report could undermine Washington's faith in Kim that he'll eventually give up his nuclear weapons.

Bruce Harrison reports from Seoul.

Trade officials will meet in Beijing for a 14th round of talks on a trilateral deal.

Officials in Seoul say they hope to open up goods and services markets and lower trade barriers with China and Japan.

Exporters here would get hit hard by a full-out trade war between China and the U.S.

But despite years of talks, politics and differences on how much to open markets have kept Seoul and its neighbors from striking a deal.

South Korea is increasingly looking to Southeast Asia as an export destination.

US Announces Withdrawal from INF Treaty

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told his NATO allies that America will be pulling out of the INF Treaty within 60 days unless Russia falls into compliance.

The US and NATO say Russia has developed a ground base missile system that violate the 1987 treaty that kept an entire class of medium range, nuclear capable missiles out of the hands of Russia and the US.

As our Europe Correspondent Kevin Ozebek reports from Brussels, there's little hope at NATO that Russia will destroy the missile system that violates the treaty.
