After midterm losses, Trump warns Democrats not to "waste taxpayer money" investigating his administration

President Trump says that if Democrats use their new-found power on Capitol Hill to launch investigations of his administration, he will respond and launch probes of them.

The President was Tweeting after the Democrats won a majority in the House of Representatives but lost ground in midterm elections for the Senate.

Seoul optimistic despite canceled U.S., N. Korea talks

The U.S. and North Korea have canceled high-level talks in New York just a day ahead of the meeting. And while there's growing concern in Washington, South Korea maintains this rocky diplomatic path is all part of the process to a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula.

According to Yonhap News, a South Korean official said the cancelation of talks is regrettable but Seoul expects Washington and Pyongyang to reschedule soon.

These delays, the official said, are to be expected.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was supposed to meet top North Korean official Kim Yong-chol in New York.

Pompeo had said he hoped to learn more about how and when North Korean leader Kim Jong-un would give up his nuclear weapons.

But this cancelation is another sign North Korea and the U.S. are far from reaching any kind of deal.

"Single-Use" tops Collins Dictionary Word of the Year

Europe's fight against plastics waste has resulted in the word "single-use" becoming the Collins Dictionary word of the year for 2018.

It is now used four times more than it was back in 2013 - largely due to the European Union's recent campaigns to put an end to single-use plastics.

N. Korea unveils likely first official portrait of Kim Jong-un

North Korea has unveiled what's believed to be its first official portrait of Kim Jong-un. The move may indicate Kim has taken the next step in developing his cult of personality in the isolated country.

Bruce Harrison reports from Seoul.

The massive painting revealed on North Korean state television shows leader Kim Jong-un wearing a western-style suit and tie.

He's smiling broadly.

The unveiling came during Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel's state visit to Pyongyang this week.

Kim's father and grandfather's portraits hang in every North Korean home as well as in public spaces.

The portraits are a central element in North Korea's domestic propaganda. And it appears Kim is now following in the family footsteps.
