US military: more than 50 Taliban commanders killed in strike

More than 50 senior Taliban commanders have been killed in an artillery strike on a meeting in Afghanistan, according to the US military.

The gathering of commanders in Helmand province was reportedly a planning session related to the insurgents' annual spring offensive, which was launched last month.

'MURDERED' RUSSIAN JOURNALIST ALIVE AND WELL

Russian journalist Arkady Babchenko, who'd been reported murdered in Kiev on Tuesday, has appeared alive and well at a press conference.

Ukraine's security services say the murder was staged to expose a Russian plot to assassinate Mr Babchenko, who is a high-profile critic of the Kremlin.

Moscow had denied any involvement in Mr Babchenko's reported death.

North Korean official travels to New York to meet US diplomats


A top North Korean official is travelling to New York to meet with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

The US and North Korea are hoping to get a planned summit between Donald Trump and Kim Jong-Un back on track. Last week President Trump cancelled the summit, citing "tremendous hostilies" from North Korea.

British white supremacist sentenced over gay pride plot

A 20-year-old far-right sympathizer has been sentenced by a British court to indefinite hospital detention after being convicted of preparing an act of terrorism.

Liege attack investigations focus on whether attacker had support

Belgian authorities say their focusing their investigations into the attack in Liege on whether the assailant had additional support.

The attacker of Belgian origins stabbed two police officers before stealing their guns and shooting them, and another man, dead.

India, Pakistan agree to curb border violence

Pakistan and India have agreed to implement in entirety a ceasefire agreement that was signed by the two countries in 2003.

Under the agreement, the New Delhi and Islamabad will ensure they don't violate the ceasefire along the Line of Control- a de facto border that divides the state of Jammu and Kashmir into India and Pakistan administered territories.

GRENFELL RESPONSE 'BADLY FLAWED'

The response to the Grenfell Tower disaster in London was 'badly flawed', according to a new report.

The local authority, Kensington and Chelsea council, displayed 'weak leadership' and left volunteers 'on the front line', according to the review.

The fire at Grenfell Tower killed 72 people on June 14th last year.

A public inquiry into the disaster is underway but Muslim Aid, which commissioned the new report - says a similar tragedy could happen again.

Russian journalist shot dead in Kiev

4,600 killed in Puerto Rico by Hurricane Maria

A study conducted by Harvard University estimates that over 4,600
people in Puerto Rico were killed by Hurricane Maria.

That's 70 times more than the official death toll which put the number
of fatalities due to last year's hurricane at 64.

Tamil Nadu government orders closure of copper plant after violent protests
