Rescue, relief and recovery efforts are getting underway in Puerto Rico as Hurricane Maria takes aim at the Bahamas.

The massive storm has strengthened as it moved off land and back over warm water.

Sixth Arrest Over Tube Attack


A sixth person has been arrested in connection with the terror attack on a London tube train last week.


A 17 year old boy is the latest to be detained by police after he was arrested in South London.

Uganda Protests

Intro;

In Uganda, the military and police are surrounding the Parliament building and major roads in Kampala ahead of the tabling of a bill to remove the Presidential age limit.

Ugandan Opposition politicians had planned to protest the bill in Parliament as it's being tabled.

The bill, if passed, allows President Yoweri Museveni to stand again in 2021.

French unions strike again over labour law reform

Tens of thousands of people are expected to strike in France on Thursday, in the second day of major protests against Emmanuel Macron's labour law reforms. 
The first march last week saw around 230 thousand people take to the streets across France.

Wikileaks' "Spy Files Russia" reveal the Russian state's mass surveillance program

The whistleblowing group WikiLeaks has released a cache of documents reportedly revealing a mass surveillance system used by the state to spy on Russian Internet and mobile users. The scheme exposed in the report is of a scale similar to the American and British secrete surveillance programs exposed earlier by the fugitive whistleblower Edward Snowden, living in asylum in Russia. Spanish PM uses national TV broadcast to call on Catalan region not to hold independence referendum

Spain's prime minister has gone on national TV to call on the Catalan region not to hold its independence referendum slated for October 1st.

The government in Madrid and Spain's constitutional court say the vote will be illegal but the separatist movement is pushing ahead with it.

Many Dead in DR Congo Floods

Special Counsel Mueller demands Trump documents

Emails requested by special counsel Robert Mueller show then Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort offering briefings to allies of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

These are part of a wide range of documents requested by the special counsel, with Paul Manafort and Michael Flynn at the center of questions.

Death Toll Climbs after Mexican Earthquake

The death toll from the magnitude 7.1 earthquake in Mexico  is expected to rise as rescue efforts slowly transition into recovery efforts. 

Mexican officials say more than 220 people lost their lives in the rubble….but many people are still missing, and  the US Geological Survey predicts as many as a thousand people may have perished.

Power out in Puerto Rico as Hurricane Maria downgraded

Hurricane Maria is moving on the Dominican Republic and Haiti, as all of the power is out on the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico.

The National Weather Service considers the massive storm now a category 2, with sustained winds of 110 miles per hour / 175 kilometers per hour, but warns, the storm could strengthen again as it heads up the American east coast.

With catastrophic flash flooding occurding over portions of Puerto Rico from Hurricane Maria, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, touring damage in Florida from Hurricane Irma, promised the U.S. government is funding relief, rescue and recovery operations.

Barack Obama speaks out on health care bill

Former U.S. President Barack Obama, in a rare return to American politics, is speaking out about his frustration with how much effort is being put into repealing his signature policy, the Affordable Care Act.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has indicated he wants to bring a new bill, the Cassidy-Graham Act, to the floor for a full vote, but only if there is enough support to pass the legislation to repeal and replace the legislation nicknamed "ObamaCare."

At an event sponsored by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation on public health, Barack Obama admitted he is frustrated by the political energy being spent to turn back progress.

The Federal Open Market Committee has left key interest rates alone, but the Fed Chief has hinted that policy could be changed as economic factors change.

Iran's President attacks Trump in UN speech

Iran's President Hassan Rouhani has pushed back against US President Donald Trump, calling him a "rogue newcomer to the world of politics".

President Rouhani didn't refer to President Trump by name during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly.

But he spent much of it attacking the claims the American leader made yesterday during his speech, that Iran is exporting violence and reneging on the nuclear deal.

Pres. Trump makes decision on Iran deal

U.S. President Donald Trump has told reporters that he's made a decision on the JCPOA - the Iran deal.

Earlier, during his debut speech to the United Nations he called the deal an embarassment, but did not say whether he would abandon the agreement negotiated under the Obama administration.

U.S. Preisdent Donald Trump is repeating his personal confidence that peace for the Middle East is possible.

Mexican earthquake death toll at 217

The Mexican Civil Defense Agency says 217 people have died after a 7.1 magnitude earthquake hit Mexico's capital city and surrounding states.

Soldiers, rescue workers and volunteers worked worked through the night, searching for people beneath rubble.
