US Government Bans Russian Security Software

The U.S. government has ordered all federal agencies to stop using security software produced by Kaspersky Lab. 
Kaspersky is a Russian company  which has become a leading supplier of security software to American businesses and government agencies.

Pres. Trump to travel to Florida to witness hurricane damage

U.S. President Donald Trump is set to travel to Florida to witness the destruction caused by Hurricane Irma, expected to visit Naples and Fort Myers on the west side of the peninsula.

The residents of the U.S. Virgin Islands are feeling abandoned as aid is just reaching St. John and the other islands which took a direct hit.

U.S. President Donald Trump repeated that hurricanes Harvey and Irma were large powerful storms.

Pres. Trump draws line on tax reform

U.S. President Donald Trump insists he wants the average income tax rate for Americans to be lowered to 15%.

He's trying to negotiate with Congressional leaders, as the damage estimates for the recent hurricanes continue to rise, one of many crises which require federal dollars. 

His administration has failed to identify where government spending can be cut.

The American president insists slashing the tax rate will mean American workers can compete with anyone in the world.

Appropriate to condemn Myanmar situation

International leaders continue to condemn the situation in Myanmar. 

Fleeing violence, some 400,000 Rohingya Muslims are now in Bangladesh.

The UN has called the situation catastratrophic, and Myanmar's effective leader Aung San Suu Kyii has cancelled her trip to the United Nations General Assembly to deal with the crisis.

In a newly released statement, the U.S. and Malaysia, "urged the Myanmar government to end the violence against innocents and ensure that humanitarian relief reaches victims immediately."
 
White House spokesperson Sarah Huckabee Sanders confirmed Myanmar came up during talks between the American president and Malaysia's Prime Minister.

The White House is maintaining that they believe former FBI Director James Comey violated the law and therefore should be investigated.

As the special counsel's investigation expands, now Robert Mueller is asking pointed questions about the son of Michael Flynn

UN chief: "catastrophic" situation for Myanmar's Rohingya

The United Nations Secretary-General has called the situation facing Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar "catastrophic".

Antonio Guterres said alleged attacks by government soldiers were unacceptable and called on the military to stop all violence. 

Almost 400,000 Rohingyas have fled to neighboring Bangladesh, following a flare up in fighting last month.

The UN Security Council is discussing the situation.

Mass evacuations in Russian cities after mysterious bomb threats

Thousands of people have been evacuated from shopping centres and railway stations in Moscow following warnings that they had been rigged with explosives. So far, no bombs have been found at any of the locations.  It follows a wave of bomb alerts across towns and cities in Russia for the last four days.  Julia Lyubova reports from Moscow.

Florida nursing homes under inspection as power remains out

All of the nursing homes in Hollywood, Florida are now under inspection after five senior citizens died due to a lack of air conditioning, as the power remains out for much of Florida.

Currently, officials with the local utilities believe it will take about 10 more days to restore power across the entire state, with about 110,000 people in shelters following Hurricane Irma.

Hollywood, Florida police chief Tomas Sanchez confirmed the tragedy.

White House eyes refugee limits

The Trump administration may soon lower the cap even further on the number of refugees allowed to be admitted to the United States, according to the New York Times.

That would bring the total per year below 50,000, which would be a further departure from a long-standing American tradition of welcoming large numbers.

US death toll for Hurricane Irma rises

The death toll in Florida  from Hurricane Irma has risen by five after residents of a nursing home that lacked power for air conditioning were found dead, and others ill from heat stress.

Florida has one of America's largest concentrations of elderly and many of those need significant medical support, especially cool air.

About half of Florida still doesn't have electricity to power air conditioning, and it's one of the factors that Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Paul Ryan is waiting to hear more about on repair estimates as he works on legislation to fund relief efforts.

US Congress passes resolution calling on Trump to condemn hate groups in wake of Charlottesville violence

The United States Congress has passed a resolution calling on President Trump to condemn hate groups after he was criticised for his repsonse to the violence at a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.

UK BOOSTS IRMA RESPONSE

UK Prime Minister Theresa May has announced 25 million pounds ($33m) in extra funding for British territories in the Caribbean affected by Hurricane Irma.

Extra troops are also being sent to the region.

Hollywood actress Rebel Wilson has been awarded a record $4.5 million Australian (more than $US3.6 million - 2.7 million Sterling) payout after being defamed by the publisher of Australia's Woman's Day magazine.
