LEAKED PAPERS SUGGEST UK MIGRATION CRACK DOWN

A leaked document suggests the UK government wants to adopt a 'more selective approach' to immigrants after Brexit.

The Home Office paper has been obtained by the Guardian and proposes cutting the number of low-skilled migrants, while being more welcoming to high-skilled workers.

Among the ideas are that low-skilled migrants would be offered two years' maximum residency, while high-skilled workers might be granted work permits of up to five years.

The government says it is simply a 'leaked draft' document and not policy.

Political editor of the Guardian Anushka Asthana says the thrust of the paper is clear.
