10-year-old rape survivor, denied abortion, gives birth

A minor girl whose plea for abortion was turned down by the Indian Supreme Court has become a mother.

The child was born through a Caesarean section.

Earlier, doctors had expressed concerns that her body was not developed enough to birth a child.

Plans to silence Big Ben under review

With just a few days to go before restoration work on Big Ben in London is due to begin, the British parliament is reviewing the decision to silence the bell.

The repairs are set to take four years and the plan is to silence the chimes of the famous clock for the duration of the work.

UK's anti-terror hotline reports big increase in calls from public

There's been a big increase in the number of phone calls received by the UK's anti-terror hotline in the wake of a series of terror attacks in London and Manchester. 

The hotline received more than 5,700 calls in June, compared to 750 in January.  

Policing analyst and former detective Graham Wettone says information supplied from the public can often be crucial.

UK government reportedly preparing for visa free travel for EU citizens post Brexit

The British government is reportedly preparing for a system of visa-free travel for visitors from European Union countries after Brexit. 

However it's understood EU citizens planning to settling in the UK would have to apply for permission.   It comes as the UK is preparing to unveil it's immigration system in the next few months.

Spanish coastguard rescues 600 migrants in 24 hour period

600 migrants have been rescued in a 24 hour period by the Spanish coastguard as they attempted to make their way to Europe from Morocco.

Spain is seeing a large increase in arrivals after the route between Turkey and Greece was blocked by a deal struck with Ankara by the EU.

Ex-German chancellor’s Schroeder’s Russia ties become campaign issue

Former German chancellor Gerhard Schroeder is planning to join the board of Russia's largest oil producer, amid questions about whether the move hurts his old political party's upcoming election chances.

Australia's One Nation Senator Pauline Hanson slammed for burqa stunt in senate

India plans a fully electric fleet for its ministers and bureaucrats

The Indian government is about to float a global tender to buy 10,000 battery-powered cars. In the first phase, the government intends to purchase 1,000 four-door electric vehicles in the next six months.

India is the third largest oil guzzler in the world and has pledged to reduce its carbon footprint by 35% by the year 2030.

US gives Kashmiri group terrorist designation

The U.S. State Department has announced Hizb-ul-Mujahideen, Kashmir's oldest militant group, is now a designated terrorist group.

The designation freezes any American based assets of the group, and bans U.S. citizens from doing business with them.
