Former German chancellor Gerhard Schroeder is planning to join the board of Russia's largest oil producer, amid questions about whether the move hurts his old political party's upcoming election chances.
Schroeder has maintained close ties with Russia since his time in office and his likely new employer is currently subject to Western sanctions.
