Vatican treasurer stands down to fight sexual abuse charges

The Vatican's third most senior cleric, Cardinal George Pell, has announced he's taking leave from his role to fight sexual abuse charges in his native Australia.
He described the accusations as "a relentless character assassination."

Italy considering stopping ships from docking at its ports to prevent high numbers of migrant arrivals

Italy says it is considering stopping ships carrying migrants from unloading them at its ports.

Jurors appear divided over verdict in opposition leader murder case

Following 2 days of extended jury deliberations a Moscow court is set to deliver the verdict in the case of the Russian opposition leader Boris Nemstov shot dead nearby the Kremlin in February 2015. Five Chechen nationals charged with committing the murder claim innocence. The politician's family fear that whoever ordered the killing will never be found. The UK government is set to confirm a former Court of Appeal judge, Sir Martin Moore-Bick, to lead the public inquiry into the Grenfell Tower blaze.

Sir Martin's appointment comes after the fire in West London on June 14th which police say killed at least around 80 people.

Thousands rally against mob violence in India

Protests were held in 16 Indian cites after a series of lynchings across India. In the last 22 months, there have been 17 instances of members from minority communities being targeted by right wing groups.

Many of these attacks have taken place on the pretexts of saving cows. Hindus consider the cow to be their holy animal. Just last week, a 16-year-old was lynched to death in Delhi after a mob accused him of having eaten beef.

The Indian government has condemned the violence and has promised justice.

Australian Cardinal George Pell charged with sex offences

Cardinal George Pell has been charged on summons with multiple, historical child sexual assault allegations in Australia.
Victoria Police said Cardinal Pell will appear in Melbourne Magistrates Court on July 18 for a filing hearing.
Cardinal Pell, the Vatican's finance chief, has repeatedly denied the allegations that date back to his time as a Ballarat priest and Melbourne archbishop.

Pres. Trump pushes migrant crime laws

U.S. President Donald Trump is pushing the passage of legislation intended to increase laws concerning illegal immigrants who commit crimes.

The acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement conceded in an off-camera White House briefing that migrants without proper documentation actually commit fewer crimes than American citizens.

Despite these facts, the cause has become an important one for President Trump, who spoke to the cameras with family members around him.

Iran set to respond to U.S. travel ban

Iran has announced it will respond to the United States travel ban by
taking reciprocal action.

U.S. President Donald Trump earlier this year called for a 90 day ban
on those coming from six Muslim majority countries including Iran.

Manslaughter charges for chief police officer at Hillsborough

Six men including four former police officers will face criminal charges over the 1989 Hillsborough disaster in which 96 Liverpool football fans were killed in a stadium crush in Sheffield. 

The announcement from Britain's Crown Prosecution Service follows  a long campaign for justice from relatives of the victims.  

In the wake of the tragedy, officers from South Yorkshire Police Force suggested hooliganism and drinking by Liverpool supporters caused the disaster.    A second inquest into the deaths in 2016  found the supporters were unlawfully killed due to failures of the police and ambulance service. 

The police officer who had overall command of the match, former Chief Superintendent David Duckenfield will face manslaughter by gross negligence in 95 of the deaths.
