Thousands rally against mob violence in India

Protests were held in 16 Indian cites after a series of lynchings across India. In the last 22 months, there have been 17 instances of members from minority communities being targeted by right wing groups.

Many of these attacks have taken place on the pretexts of saving cows. Hindus consider the cow to be their holy animal. Just last week, a 16-year-old was lynched to death in Delhi after a mob accused him of having eaten beef.

The Indian government has condemned the violence and has promised justice.
