Pres. Trump promotes spending compromise as political win

U.S. President Donald Trump is promoting the spending compromise that will keep the U.S. government running through the end of the fiscal year in September as a massive political win.

But a closer look at the legislation finds many of the White House priorities minimized - such as a limited increase in funding for the military and maintaining funding for key agencies such as the National Institutes of Health.

And while the legislation only adds a little bit for border security, on that President Trump insists is a win.

House moves forward on North Korea sanctions

The U.S. House of Representatives is moving forward with a package of sanctions aimed at preventing North Korea from making further progress on it's nuclear weapons program.

U.S. President Donald Trump has confused efforts by saying that he'd be honored to meet with leader Kim Jong Un, if it were appropriate, a total abandonment of previous U.S. policy coming just after the U.S. tried to pressure the international community to do more during a special session of the U.N. Security Council.

With Treasury Secretary Mnuchin endorsing additional sanctions as very important to U.S. national security, House majority leader Kevin McCarthy said the chamber is working on legislation.
