Campaigners angry British government ends scheme to help lone child refugees

Campaigners have reacted angrily to a low-key announcement by the British government that it is to end a commitment to bring hundreds of lone refugee children to the UK from camps in Europe.

Activists had hoped that up to three thousand children would benefit from the scheme,  however the plan will end after resettling 350 children .   From London, Catherine Drew reports.

Support for Elizabeth Warren Goes Viral: #letlizspeak

Top American Democrats are rallying to support US Senator Elizabeth Warren, after Republicans silenced her on the Senate floor.

Warren had been reading a letter written 30 years ago by Martin Luther King Jr.'s widow Coretta Scott King. 

That letter criticized the civil rights record of Senator Jeff Sessions, President Trump's nominee to lead the Justice Department.

After being silenced by the Republican majority, Democrat Warren went into the hallway, where she continued to read the letter for a Facebook video.

Native American Groups Vow To Step Up Pipeline Protests

Native American groups say they'll continue trying to block the development of the Dakota Access Oil pipeline, a day after the US Army said it plans to grant the final easement needed to complete the project.

UK COMMONS PASSES BREXIT BILL

Legislation to allow the UK government to trigger the Brexit process has passed the country's House of Commons.

MPs voted overwhelmingly in favour of the so-called Brexit bill - 494 to 122.

It's also prompted a leadership crisis for opposition Labour's Jeremy Corbyn - his shadow business secretary Clive Lewis has quit the shadow cabinet over the vote.

The legislation now goes to the House of Lords for approval after which Prime Minister Theresa May will be able to trigger formal Brexit negotiations via Article 50.

White House maintains immigration executive order is legal

The Trump administration is maintaining that the executive order limiting travelers from 7 Middle Eastern countries is legal under standing immigration law.

U.S. President Donald Trump tweeted that according to one (unscientific, self-selecting) online poll by Politico, his immigration ban is one of the most popular executive orders so far.

A three judge panel in San Francisco is continuing to review arguments on whether the executive order is constitutional.

White House spokesman Sean Spicer insisted the court case is on a narrow point of law, and the president has all the authority he needs to do what he did.

White House maintains Yemen attack a success

The Trump administration says it will continue to work with Yemen, following the special forces attack which left at least one U.S. Navy Seal dead.

Yemen's government has withdraw permission for the U.S. military to carry out ground operations after it was confirmed, Yemeni civilians were killed in that attack.

White House claims Nordstrom decision is attack

The Trump administration is claiming Nordstrom's decision to stop carrying his daughter's clothing line is a personal attack on the president's family.

Nordstrom has ceased purchasing products from her line, while discount retailers TJ Maxx and Marshalls are no longer promoting them.

President Trump tweeted that Nordstrom is treating Ivanka unfairly.

New Zealand man faces death penalty in U.S.

Chaos in Brazil after police goes on strike


The Brazilian government has deployed more than 1,000 troops to the city of Vitoria in the South-Eastern state of Espiritu Santo, after a recent police strike sparked a wave of violence there. 

Brazilian authorities say that an estimated 70 people have been killed since the strike began.

Trump to issue executive order halting 'conflict mineral' regulation

Donald Trump has been defending his controversial immigration travel ban just hours after a federal appeals court heard arguments on whether it should be reinstated.

The ban against people from 7 Muslim majority countries entering the US has been temporarily lifted after a series of state legal challenges.

A ruling from the California appeals court is expected later this week.

UN Appeals for $2.1 Billion To Avoid Yemen Famine
