Child sex abuse scandal involving football club grows in the UK

The historic child sex abuse scandal linked to football clubs in widening in the UK, with police saying the number of suspects being investigated has reached 155.   

The National Police Chief's Council says it has identified 429 potential victims across 148 clubs.  From London, Catherine Drew reports.

DNA tests approved on Argentine soldiers buried on Falklands

The UK and Argentina have signed a deal to identify more than 100 Argentinian soldiers buried on the Falkland Islands...

Following negotiations, DNA samples will be taken from the remains of the men who fought in the 1982 conflict.

EU countries could sanction Poland over rule of law dispute

Poland could become the first ever European Union country to face sanctions from its fellow EU member states.

EU to announce new anti-terror legislation

The European Commission is set to unveil a new package of security proposals on Wednesday - including new moves to stem weapons trafficking and the financing of terrorism.

BUCKINGHAM PALACE SECURITY BOOSTED AFTER BERLIN

Roads are being closed around Buckingham Palace in London in response to the Berlin Christmas market attack.

The road closures will be imposed temporarily each day when the changing of the guard ceremony takes place, which is a major tourist attraction at the Palace.

Manhunt continues after Berlin truck attack

German authorities are continuing their search for the driver of the truck who drove into a crowded Berlin Christmas market, killing twelve people.

The federal police chief has said he’s ‘relatively confident’ they’ll have a new suspect in the near future, after the original suspect was released due to lack of evidence.

President Obama Bans New Oil and Gas Drilling in Parts of Arctic and Atlantic Oceans

President Obama has withdrawn hundreds of millions of acres of federally owned land in the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans from future offshore oil and gas drilling. 

He used a little-known law called the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act.

And as US Correspondent Rachel Silverman reports, under that law, a president is not authorized to "undo" a previous withdrawal.

Syria Update: 20 more UN monitors to Aleppo; Russia, Turkey, Iran jointly seek Syria conflict


The United Nations has received the green light from the Syrian government to send twenty more UN staff members into eastern Aleppo, to monitor evacuations. 


The move came as Russia, Turkey and Iran indicated a willingness to jointly find a solution to the Syrian conflict.

Berlin attack suspect released by police

Police in the German city of Berlin have released a man they had suspected of driving a truck into a crowded Christmas market due to lack of evidence.

New Video Released of Kidnapped North American Couple in Afghanistan

An Afghan militant group has released new footage of an American woman and a Canadian man kidnapped in July 2012.

The video shows the couple, Joshua Boyle and Caitlan Coleman, with two young boys, who appear healthy but seem to have been born in captivity.

Caitlan was pregnant when the pair were abducted while on a hiking trip. Here's our US correspondent Lorna Shaddick.

Italian government asks parliament for approval to raise national debt to save struggling banks

The government in Italy has applied parliament to borrow more than 20 billion dollars to prop up its faltering banking system.
