ALEPPO EVACUATIONS RESUME

Evacuation buses and ambulances have been leaving rebel areas of the Syrian city of Aleppo.

The evacuations had been halted after a deal was threatened by the torching of buses sent to rescue people from government-controlled areas.

Hundreds of people are thought to have left rebel-held areas on Sunday, but thousands more are waiting to leave.

The UN Security Council will vote later on a compromise deal to allow UN monitoring of the evacuation process.

US Electoral College Set To Meet

The 538 electors making up the US Electoral College will meet on Monday to determine who will be the next president, in what is usually a mere formality confirming November's result.

In all 50 state capitols and the District of Colombia, representatives will cast ballots along the lines of how their state voted in the election, with a majority, 306, set to vote for Donald Trump.

But as our US correspondent Lorna Shaddick explains, given that Mr. Trump lost the popular vote, and after allegations of Russian interference, there has been a campaign to get the electors to vote differently.

Obama holds end of year news conference: Aleppo, Russia, China
