First baby born with Zika-related microcephaly in continental US


Hospital officials have confirmed that a baby girl has been born with the Zika virus-related defect microcephaly in the U.S. state of New Jersey.

This is the first known case of a baby born with Zika-related birth defects in the continental United States.

One other case was previously reported in Hawaii.

Oklahoma 'Taser error' ex-officer jailed for four years

A US ex-police officer who killed an unarmed black man has been sentenced to four years in prison in the state of Oklahoma.

Seventy four year-old Robert Bates said he mistakenly used his gun instead of his Taser when he killed forty-four year-old Eric Harris.

North Korea praises Donald Trump

The regime of Kim Jong Un is praising Donald Trump and his threat to withdraw American forces from South Korea.

Two Russians stripped of London Olympic medals

Inquests into 1974 Birmingham bombings to be re-opened

21 victims of a 1974 IRA pub bombing in the British city of  Birmingham are to have their inquests re-opened following the submission of new evidence.     

The original inquests were not continued after the so-called Birmingham six  were jailed for the attack, however the men were later exonerated.    From London, Catherine Drew reports.

Campaigners for the UK to leave the EU say a Brexit could create a "fairer, more humane" immigration system...

Vote Leave is calling for a points-based system, similar to Australia, arguing that free movement in the EU has hit public services in Britain.

The British public will vote on whether to stay in or leave the EU on June 23rd.

World's Longest Rail Tunnel Opens in Switzerland

It took two decades to build, but what is now the world's longest and deepest train tunnel is set to be officially opened in Switzerland.

The tunnel will allow high speed trains to cut the journey time between Zurich and Milan by an hour.

OAS: Urgent Meeting about Venezuela


The General Secretary of the Organization Of American States has called for an urgent meeting of all members to see if Venezuela’s government has breached democratic rules.

The OAS is a body formed to promote regional solidarity and cooperation in the Americas.

Criminal probe launched over gorilla incident in Cincinnati

Police in the American city of Cincinnati say they've opened a criminal inquiry into how a 4 year old boy fell into a gorilla enclosure at the city's zoo.


A 17 year-old endangered lowland gorilla was shot dead by zookeepers in a move that has been condemned by animal lovers.
