China to carry out more drills in South China Sea

China's military will carry out more exercises in the much disputed South China Sea.

Numerous countries have overlapping claims of the energy-rich waters and tensions in the region have been high in recent years.

UK retailer Sainbury's see sales and profits fall

The UK retailer Sainsbury's has reported a fall in annual profits, as the battle of the supermarkets for the lowest prices continues.

Sainbury's saw its underlying profits fall by more than 100 million dollars, compared to the previous year.

While the retailer saw a rise in both clothing and online sales, it saw a fall in its sales at supermarkets.

UK government under pressure to accept lone child refugees from Europe

The British government is coming under pressure to accept three thousand lone child refugees who have fled the Syria region and travelled to Europe.   

A group of Jewish refugees who came to the UK in the "Kindertransport" rescue efforts in the 1930s say Prime Minister David Cameron must demonstrate compassion towards these children.

Europe to stop issuing 500 euro "Bin Laden" bank notes

500 euro banknotes are expected to stop being printed in an attempt to prevent the financing of criminal activity.

The European Central Bank is set phase them out the banknote by 2018.

German comic slams Merkel over Turkey row

BREXIT TALKS 'COULD TAKE YEARS'

If Britain votes to leave the European Union, exit negotiations with Brussels could take years to complete.

That's according to the EU Committee at the UK's House of Lords.

It says trade negotiations and the rights of the two million UK expats who live in the EU would be particularly complicated to settle.

Britain votes on its EU membership in a referendum on 23rd June.

Lord Boswell chairs the EU Committee and says Britons who live elsewhere in the EU are right to be concerned over their rights.

Republican Presidential hopeful Donald Trump has moved a step closer
to the White House with a key win in the state of Indiana.

His victory forced his closest competitor Ted Cruz to drop out of the race.

It now means Trump is likely to become the Republican nominee and

UN Security Council adopts resolution to halt attacks on hospitals, health workers

Intentional and direct attacks on hospitals are war crimes, according to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, as the Security Council on Tuesday adopted a resolution calling for an end to attacks on hospitals and medical workers. 


The unanimous vote comes in the wake of a series of strikes against health facilities and personnel in conflict zones.
