UN to air drop aid in Syria to area besieged by Islamic State

The United Nations has announced plans to air-drop food supplies into
the besieged Syrian town of Deir al-Zor. The World Food Programme will
deliver the aid to nearly 200,000 people blockaded there by the
Islamic State.

Pope Suggests Trump is "Not a Christian"

The Pope has suggested that US presidential candidate Donald Trump is not a Christian following a six-day trip to Mexico.

Donald Trump attacked Francis for being a political pawn to the Mexican government for holding a mass at the troubled border city of Juarez. 

Referring to Trump's tough immigration position, Francis said that: "A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian".

Donald Trump swiftly fired back with a statement.

Trump rejects Pope Francis criticism

Donald Trump has hit back after Pope Francis suggested that the Republican front-runner cannot be considered a real Christian because of his position on immgration.


Speaking at the end of an official visit to Mexico, the Pope told reporters that anyone who wants to "build walls" between countries isn't honoring the teachings of the Christian faith.

Oil prices rise on potential production freeze

The price of Brent Crude rose to over $35 a barrel on Thursday as oil
exporting nations discuss the possibility of a production freeze.

Oil prices were up above $100 a barrel in mid-2014 but an excess in
supply twinned with a drop in global demand have caused prices to
plummet.

David Cameron lowered expectations going into summit - analyst

David Cameron is in Brussels for negotiations to rewrite Britain's relationship with the EU ahead of the referendum on the country's membership, hoping by Friday he can have a deal.

All 28 European Union leaders are in Brussels for a summit to try to find an agreement.

Alan Wheatley, director of fact checking website In Facts, says Cameron has lowered his expectations heading into the summit.

Uganda's electoral body has extended voting time in some areas around the capital and its suburbs.


Violence erupted after angry voters demanded to know why there were delays in arrival of voting materials for hours.

Chaos broke out in some parts of the capital Kampala after hours of waiting in queues. 


Voting materials were not delivered on time, delaying the voting process for over 6 hours in some polling stations. 


Voters in affected areas are disappointed with the electoral process.


There were reports that angry voters attacked polling assistants and tore ballot papers. 


Police fired tear-gas to disperse crowds.


The electoral commission has apologized for the mishap and regrets the delay…..It has now extended polling time to 15GMT from 13GMT.


There is no confirmation whether this will affect the time when results will be announced. 


Results were expected within 48 hours after polling closes.

The Kremlin denies S-300 delivery to Iran

The Kremlin says no date was set for shipping of a Russian missile defense system to Iran quoting contractual complications. Earlier Russian media reported the first dispatch of the S-300 system was expected on Thursday.  Julia Lyubova reports from Moscow.

Pres. Obama confirms Cuba trip

U.S. President Barack Obama is confirming on social media that he will travel to Cuba on March 21st.

The announcement comes as U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry holds trade talks with Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment Rodrigo Malmierca, at the Department of State.

PM Cameron Arrives in Brussels for Critical EU Summit

UK Prime Minister David Cameron is back in Brussels where he is going to push fellow European Union heads of state to adopt his reform package.
The prime minister hopes at the two day EU Summit, he'll be able to strike a deal that includes allowing the UK to cut work benefits for EU migrants.
If the package isn't eventually approved, Prime Minister Cameron warns it will be hard to convince the UK public to stay in the 28 member state union.
As the prime minister arrived at the summit, he promised he'll be fighting for the reforms his citizens want.

OBAMA 'TO VISIT CUBA'

Several polling stations have suffered delays as droves of Ugandans began voting in presidential and parliamentary polls.

 

Uganda's independent electoral commission says the delivery of voting materials caused distribution delays in most parts of Kampala and the surrounding areas.

 

Over 15 million Ugandans are registered to vote, casting ballots in over 28,000 polling stations.

 

Social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter are now inaccessible. 

 

The country's communications commission says it has switched off the platforms citing security concerns.

 

Seven candidates are vying to unseat the incumbent President Yoweri Museveni who has been in power for thirty years.

 

The main challengers are Kizza Besigye and former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi.

 

Election results are due to be announced within 48 hours of polls closing.

UK Prime Minister Prepares for Brussels EU Summit

The British Prime Minister David Cameron heads to Brussels today for a summit, in which he's hoping a deal will be reached on reforming Britain's membership of the EU.

Russia to send first dispatch of air defense system to Iran


Russia is expected to ship the first part of its advanced S-300 air defense system to Iran on Thursday.
