Several polling stations have suffered delays as droves of Ugandans began voting in presidential and parliamentary polls.
Uganda's independent electoral commission says the delivery of voting materials caused distribution delays in most parts of Kampala and the surrounding areas.
Over 15 million Ugandans are registered to vote, casting ballots in over 28,000 polling stations.
Social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter are now inaccessible.
The country's communications commission says it has switched off the platforms citing security concerns.
Seven candidates are vying to unseat the incumbent President Yoweri Museveni who has been in power for thirty years.
The main challengers are Kizza Besigye and former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi.
Election results are due to be announced within 48 hours of polls closing.
