US Soldier Killed in Afghanistan

The Pentagon says it's still trying to gather details on a firefight in Afghanistan that left a US special operations soldier dead.

The firefight erupted in Marja in Helmond Province in southern Afghanistan.

Pentagon Officials say two medic helicopters responded but one couldn't land because of incoming fire and the second couldn't take off after landing because it was damaged.

Two other US Special Operations soldiers were wounded as well as a number of Afghan special operations soldiers.

Pentagon Spokesman Peter Cook says despite a Taliban resurgence in Helmond Province, Afghan troops will be able to secure the country with the help of the US.
