Donald Trump defends comments about 9/11 attacks

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has defended his controversial claim that he saw "Arab" Americans cheer after the 9/11 attacks.


Trump first made the comments at a weekend campaign rally.

The terror alert in Brussels is to remain on its highest level as the Belgian government considers a threat to be serious and imminent.

Twenty one people have now been arrested in Belgium as part of wide ranging anti-terror raids.

FRANCE BOOSTS MILITARY CAMPAIGN AGAINST ISIS

France is stepping up its military action against Islamic State positions in Iraq and Syria.

Air strikes are being launched from French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle from Monday, after it was deployed following the Paris attacks which killed 130 people.

French President Francois Hollande has been hosting UK Prime Minister David Cameron and the two men have agreed to increase counter-terrorism intelligence-sharing.

ARRESTS IN BELGIUM ANTI TERROR RAIDS

Paris attacks suspect Salah Abdeslam remains at large after a series of anti-terror raids in Belgium.

Belgian authorities say 16 people have been arrested in 22 raids in the capital Brussels and the city of Charleroi.

Salah Abdeslam was not among those detained - he's suspected of being one of the attackers who killed over 130 in Paris, and is thought to have fled to Belgium.

Brussels remains at the highest level of terror alert and schools, universities and the metro system are closed.

UK Prime Minister David Cameron has visited the Bataclan concert hall in Paris where at least 89 people were killed in the attacks on the city, as he holds talks with French President Francois Hollande on combating the Islamic State.

Belgian authorities plead for social media silence as raids continue

A major security operation is taking place in the Belgian capital Brussels, after the country's Prime Minister said there was a "serious and imminent" threat of an attack on the city.


He's extended a terror alert, and guests in several hotels in the center of Brussels have been warned to remain inside.


Several streets were blocked off as a series of raids were reported to have begun.
