US military set to reveal plan on closing Guantanamo Bay detention facility

The U.S. military is nearly read to reveal its plan to close the highly controversial detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

U.S. President Barack Obama has promised to shut the facility, but faces stiff Congressional opposition, including a lack of funding to transfer any prisoners.

Report: Banks still too big to fail

A new report shows international banks need more than a trillion
dollars to ensure tax-payers are not liable should a a bank bailout be
needed.

The report looks into the culture of 'too big to fail', the idea that
financial institutions would be funded no matter the costs rather than
being allowed to go bankrupt.

US calls for calm, dialogue for Burundi

The U.S. is calling for calm and a return to mediation in Burundi, over violence tied to political protests over President Pierre Nkurunziza's plan to stand for a third term.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has spoken with AU chief Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and he's also sent Special Envoy for the Great Lakes Region of Africa Thomas Perriello to the region.

At the U.S. State Department, spokesman John Kirby said Washington wants to hear less inflammatory rhetoric and more talk of resolving issues.

Obama meets with Israel's PM, Security & peace process top agenda

President Obama and Israeli Leader Benjamin Netanyahu met in Washington for bilateral talks Monday.

US confirms American deaths in Jordan at training center

The U.S. State Department is confirming two Americans were killed and two injured at a police training compound in the eastern sector of Amman, Jordan.

U.S. President Barack Obama says Washington is working with it's longtime ally Jordan to conduct a full investigation into the attack, which also left an citizen of South Africa dead.

At the U.S. State Department, spokesman John Kirby expressed condolences to the families of the victims..

EU Considers Creation of Processing Centers to Slow Flow of Migrants

European Union leaders are proposing the creation of "processing centers" throughout Europe to try and tackle the ongoing migrant and refugee crisis.

US urges calm in Myanmar after election

The White House is urging calm in Myanmar, after preliminary election results suggested a landslide victory for the opposition party led by Nobel Peace Prize-winner Aung San Suu Kyi.


Senior members of her "National League for Democracy" are claiming the party took 70 per cent of the vote.

2 US, 1 S. African Dead in Jordan Police Training Center Shooting

At least four people have been killed at a US-backed police  raining center in Jordan.

Those killed include two American contractors, one South African contractor and a Jordanian.

The gunman was killed and at least five others were wounded.

Local media reports suggest he was a Jordanian police officer working at the training center.

Report Finds Russian Athletes Part of Systematic Athletics Doping Programme

An independent commission set up by the World Anti Doping Agency has recommended that the Russian Athletics Federation should be banned from the sport.

WADA CALLS FOR RUSSIAN ATHLETICS BAN

A World Anti-Doping Agency commission report is recommending the suspension of Russia from international athletics competition.

The independent WADA commission says it uncovered doping, cover-ups, and extortion in Russian athletics, often with state support.

And it claims the London 2012 Olympics were 'sabotaged' by Russian athletes who should have been banned for doping by the International Association of Athletics Federations, which also faces severe criticism in the report.

Russia and Iran finalize missile systems delivery deal

British scientists warn this year will see full 1 degree rise in global temperatures
