8.3 MAGNITUDE QUAKE STRIKES CHILE

Around a million people have been evacuated and at least five have died after an 8.3 magnitude earthquake in Chile.

Buildings swayed in the capital Santiago and large waves have been reported in some coastal regions.

Chilean President Michelle Bachelet has addressed the nation on the earthquake and is to travel to affected areas.

It happened just ahead of Chile's national holidays, as thousands traveled to coastal areas.

Mario Faray journalist in Santiago says Chile's long coastline has affected people's reactions.

Second US GOP Debate Sees Trump Share Spotlight

Republican presidential hopefuls vied for a spot in the limelight in
the party's second series of televised debates Wednesday. The 11 top
polling candidates squared off in a three hour live event, with former
tech executive Carly Fiorina boldly challenging GOP frontrunner,
billionaire businessman Donald Trump.

Copy: Donald Trump dominated much of the second republican presidential debate, both as the front-running candidate and the subject of questions to his opponents for the party's nomination. Carly Fiorina, who was not included in the first prime time debate, earned a position on the stage at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library this time based on her surging poll numbers. The eleven candidates debated a broad range of issues including tax policy, the Iran deal, immigration, and most often what they thought of Mr. Trump, who went head to head with Jeb Bush about his history of campaign contributions to democrats.

Second US GOP Debate Kicks Off in California

The eleven top Republican presidential candidates are vying for the
spotlight in the US state of California, where the second GOP debate
kicked off Wednesday night. Out of the gate, Candidates challenged
Frontrunner Donald Trump, prompted by a question about the prospect of
the billionaire businessman having his finger on the country's nuclear
trigger.

Former tech executive Carly Fiorina, whom Trump insulted publicly
about her appearance in the days leading up to the debate, emphasized
Trump is an entertainer, suggesting the American people will see his
true colors.

Texas teen arrested over home-made clock invited to White House by Obama

A teenage schoolboy who was arrested by the authorities in Texas after taking a home-made clock to school has been invited to the White House by President Obama.

The parents of 14 year-old Ahmed Mohamed say he was dragged out of his school in handcuffs, simply because he's a Muslim.

American Muslim boy arrested for making an electronic clock

Authorities in the American state of Texas are being accused of Islamophobia, after a Muslim boy was arrested for making a clock as a school project.

The school and police feared the device might have been a bomb.

Refugees uncertain about route on Macedonian border

Refugees making their way into the European Union are uncertain about which route to take after Hungary closed its border with Serbia.

Protests have erupted there as asylum seekers from Syria, Iraq and across the middle east camp out trying to cross into the EU.

Federal Reserve Officials Begin Two Day Policy Meeting

Officials at the US Federal Reserve have begun a two day meeting to consider whether to raise interest rates for the first time in nearly a decade.

Survivor of live television shooting gives her first interview

The woman who survived a horrific massacre on live television says she thought she was going to die.

Virginia chamber of commerce official Vicki Gardner was being interviewed on a morning news program last month when Vester Lee Flanagan opened fire killing his former colleagues - reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward.

Vicki Gardener was shot in the back and lost a kidney.

Speaking on Fox News in her first interview after the attack, she said she thought she'd been shot in the head.

US Firefighters fight for 9/11 compensation

Hundreds of firefighters are expected in America's capital to campaign
for extra compensation to pay for medical conditions they have as a
result of the 9/11 attacks on America.

Many have cancer which they claim is due to exposure at Ground Zero in
