US and China Address Tensions at Dialogue

Senior Chinese and US officials are meeting in Washington where they are expected to address tensions over the South China Sea and cyber attacks.

But the two largest economic superpowers are also be seeking to build on consenus issues like combatting climate change.

Russia responds to EU sanctions extension

Russia Premier Dmitri Medvedev says his government will ask President Vladimir Putin to extend Russian embargo on Western food products, imposed last year in response to the sanctions. The move comes as EU officials decided to extend economic sanctions against Russia, imposed over its role in Ukraine, for another six months. Anya Ardayeva reports from Moscow.

EU launches naval operation to combat human trafficking in Mediterranean

The European Union is launching a naval operation Monday to curb human traffickers bringing migrants to Europe by dangerous trips across the Mediterranean in unsafe boats.

Around 2,000 people have died this year in attempting to reach European shores, but many others continue to make the treacherous journey.

Over 100,000 migrants have survived the trip to Europe this year, causing Italy and Greece to be inundated with asylum seekers

Creditors appear positive about fresh Greece debt proposals

The Greek Prime Minister, Alexis Tsipras has put forward a renewed set of proposals top its creditors ahead of an emergency summit of eurozone leaders in Brussels.

After 5 months of deadlock, Greece's creditors now say the proposals are heading in the right direction.

If no agreement is made, Greece could default on its debts and potentially leave the single currency euro.

Taliban targets Afghan Parliament

The Afghan Parliament in Kabul has come under attack from the Taliban...

It's reported the premises has been evacuated amid fierce fighting.

Taylor Shift removes album from Apple Music

Musician Taylor Shift has removed her hit album 1989 from Apple's new
music streaming service.

The record has sold over 4.9 million copies in the United States alone
and swift says it's not right for Apple to give artists work away for
free.

Greek government outlines "final proposals"

The Greek government has put forward it's final proposals ahead of an emergency summit of eurozone leaders in Brussels Monday.

With a June 30th deadline looming to repay the International Monetary Fund 1.6 billion euro, Athens needs a deal to unlock bailout money from its creditors.

Russia and Saudi Arabia boost ties

Russia and Saud Arabia have signed a memorandum of understanding between the two countries public investment funds. The agreement, worth 10 billion dollars, commits the Saudi Public Investment Fund and the Russian Direct Investment fund and is one of the six agreements signed by the governments of two countries in recent days. Charleston mourns for shooting victims

Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church has held its first church service after its pastor and 8 others were killed in a mass shooting last week.

Emanuel Church re-opens after shooting

The Emanuel AME Church in Charleston has opened its doors to
worshippers for the first time since a gunman killed nine black church
members on Wednesday.


Thousands of people from across the United States came to the event in
a sign of solidarity.

AID AGENCY ISSUES PLEA OVER SYRIA FUEL SUPPLIES

GDP data set to top Wall Street agenda

Gross domestic product is due for release in the United States this week and analysts expect it to show that the economy in the first quarter wasn't as weak as previously feared.

Charleston shooter denied bail

The 21-year-old man accused of killing nine people during a bible study meeting in one of the US South's most historic black churches has been denied bail based on nine counts of murder.

During the hearing, the judge set bail for one count of weapons possession at one million dollars.

Bond set at one million dollars for Charleston shooting suspect

A U.S. judge has set Charleston shooting suspect Dylann Roof's bond at one million dollars for a weapons charge- but not for the nine charges of murder he faces for gunning down nine African-Americans inside a church on Wednesday evening.

Showing no shred of emotion, the suspect- who was caught after a member of the public spotted his vehicle at a traffic light- looked down while he listened to statements from the victims families- via video conference.

The daughter of one of the victims- Ethel Lance- gave an emotional statement saying that while she forgives him, he had caused her great pain.

NRA blames dead priest for Charleston attack deaths

A senior figure within America's powerful National Rifle Association has said a priest who died in Wednesday night's massacre in South Carolina bears responsibility for the attack.

US OPM to reveal info on cyber attack

The U.S. Office of Personnel Management is due to notify some 4.2 million federal employees  that their personal records might have been compromised, after a massive data breach that was discovered earlier this month.

So far U.S. government officials believe the people responsible for this information breach have ties to the Chinese government, which has denied any involvement in the cyber attack.
