UK ready to host 2022 World Cup

Britain's Culture Secretary says England stands ready to host the Fifa World Cup in 2022, if it is stripped from Qatar.

His comments come as Swiss investigators are looking into claims of possible corruption in the bidding process for the 2018 tournament which was won by Russia and Qatar's controversial winning bid for 2022.

Speculation is mounting that Qatar could lose the rights to host the 2022 competition despite the country's denial of any wrongdoing.

Britain's Culture Secretary John Whittingdale said that while it was unlikely that Europe would host the 2022 World Cup after Russia's 2018 tournament, England could step forward if needed.
