Greece's negotiators in Brussels for rescue talks as Moody's downgrades bonds rating

A Greek team of negotiators is in Brussels for further talks with international creditors to strike a rescue deal before the country runs out of cash. 

Meanwhile rating agency Moody's downgraded Greece's government bond rating, citing high uncertainty that an agreement will be reached in time.

German newspaper claims the German intelligence service has spied on top French and European officials

Germany's intelligence service has been spying on top officials in France and at the European Commission for the US National Security Agency - according to the German newspaper  Sueddeutsche Zeitung (sood-doi-tscha tz-eye-tung).

It claims phones were tapped within the office of the French president, the French foreign ministry and the EU Commission in Brussels under a deal agreed in 2002.

UK LEADERS TO FACE TV QUESTIONS

The leaders of Britain's three main political parties - for now, at least - are preparing for the final set-piece television event of the general election campaign.

Conservative Prime Minister David Cameron, Liberal Democrat Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, and opposition Labour leader Ed Miliband will face the cameras and questions from a studio audience.

The leaders will appear separately, and won't debate each other - because David Cameron only agreed to one TV debate before Thursday's vote.

It comes with most polls still showing his Conservatives neck and neck with Labour and Britain heading for a hung parliament.

BOY RESCUED FROM NEPAL RUBBLE

A teenaged boy has been rescued alive from rubble in Kathmandu, five days after an earthquake struck Nepal.

Some survivors in rural regions still haven't received any aid, however, after Saturday's quake.

The United Nations says it needs $415m for emergency relief in the next three months.

The official death toll from the earthquake stands over 5500, and the UN says 70 000 homes have been destroyed.

Ben Setton is country director in Nepal for the Adam Smith International group and says thousands of people are too scared to return to their homes.

Aid slow to Nepal victims, as quake death count rises


Relief efforts are ongoing in Nepal with the United Nations saying aid is getting to those affected in the broader region.

Saturday's 7.8-magnitude quake has killed over 5,000 people and injured thousands - that death toll is expected to rise significantly.

Japanese PM Addresses US Congress, Expresses 'Condolences' For WW2 Abuses

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has become the first Japanese leader to address a joint session of the US Congress.

Mr. Abe expressed his 'eternal condolences' for the American lives lost fighting Japan in the second world war, but stopped short of a personal apology, which some veterans' groups and activists had demanded.

Speaking after visiting Washington's World War Two memorial, Mr. Abe said he reflected on all those who died:

Hillary Clinton urges body cameras for all American police

Hillary Clinton is calling for every police officer in America to be equipped with a body camera.


Speaking on the Presidential campaign trail after the latest violence in Baltimore, she said America is jailing too many young, black people, and giving too much militarized equipment to the police.

Supreme Court to consider lethal injection drug legality

On Wednesday, the US Supreme Court is set to consider whether a three drug mix used for lethal injection by the state of Oklahoma constitutes cruel and unusual punishment.

The case comes as multiple states across the US have been turning to experimental drug combinations, as European manufacturers refuse to sell them drugs they've previously used to carry out executions.

France to boost defence budget by 4 billion euros

France says it will add almost 4 billion euros to its defence budget next year to combat terror threats at home and abroad

"No new taxes" promises Cameron in future Tory government

Greece talks not fast enough says EU economics commissioner

Talks between Greece and its lenders to agree on a rescue deal are not going fast enough - according to the EU's top economics official. 

A deadline of May the eleventh is looming for Greece to agree on a package of reforms in order to receive its final bailout installment worth 7.2 billion euro.

TWITTER RESULTS BELOW FORECAST

Twitter has reported financial results which fell below expectations.

The social networking site's revenues were $436 million, well below forecast, and it made a net loss of $162m, which was worse than last year.

Twitter warned the negative pressure on its revenue would continue for the rest of the financial year - and the firm's shares slumped 18% at the end of trading in the US on Tuesday.

Danny Cox of stockbroker Hargreaves Lansdown says it's not all bad news.

RIOT POLICE DEPLOYED IN KATHMANDU

Riot police have been deployed in Kathmandu as thousands of people queue to leave the city following Nepal's earthquake at the weekend.

More than 5000 people are known to have died in the quake.

Aid has started to reach remote regions of Nepal but aftershocks continue to complicate the relief effort.

The UK is giving another £5m ($7.5m) to the operation taking its total contribution so far to £15m ($22.5m) and a TV appeal has been launched by Britain's Disasters Emergency Committee.

Mike Noyes of Action Aid says his charity and others are working as fast as possible to get basic supplies to those who still need them.
