IRAN TALKS CONTINUE WITH NO DEAL REACHED

Talks on Iran's nuclear programme continue in Lausanne, Switzerland with no deal reached yet.

Six world powers are attempting to negotiate an agreement to limit Iran's nuclear activity in exchange for loosening sanctions, with a deadline of the end of the month.

EU LEADERS LOOK FOR GREECE PROGRESS

Greece says it will come up with a new reform plan within days to secure bailout funds needed to avoid going bankrupt.

EU leaders are meeting Brussels to discuss the Greek situation - with Greece's Prime Minister saying he is 'more optimistic' after talks overnight.

Leaders also agreed to keep sanctions on Russia over Ukraine in place.

UKIP IN EXPENSES SCANDAL

Britain's anti-EU, anti-immigration party UKIP has been plunged into a new scandal over expenses.

UKIP MEP and general election candidate Janice Atkinson has been suspended over 'allegations of a serious financial nature'.

An investigation by the Sun newspaper appears to show her chief of staff asking a restaurant manager to increase the amount on a bill so it can be claimed back on expenses.

The Sun's Steve Hawkes says the story harms the MEP and her party.

Darkness has fallen in places as the Moon passed in front of the Sun.

In the UK cloudy conditions have harmed the spectacle for many.

EU leaders agree to keep sanctions on Russia until year's end

European Union leaders have agreed to keep up sanctions on Russia until the end of the year at least.


They have been linked to the implementation of the latest ceasefire deal for Ukraine, which both sides accuse the other of breaching with artillery shelling.

Australia releases Nauru detention abuse report in shadow of former PM's death

Australia's immigration minister Peter Dutton has been questioned about the timing of the release of a report into allegations of abuse against asylum seekers on the Pacific island of Nauru which was slipped out on Friday afternoon in the wake of the announcement of the death of former Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser.

Former Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser dead at 84

Former Australian prime minister Malcolm Fraser has died at the age of 84.
Mr Fraser died early Friday morning after a short illness.
He served as Australia's prime minister from November 1975 until 1983, and is remembered for his part in the dismissal of the Labor government of Gough Whitlam in 1975.

Reports link Obama family to famed home in Hawaii

Reports in Hawaii suggest that President Obama has purchased a luxury home made famous by the television program "Magnum PI".


The three-acre oceanfront property changed hands on Monday for nearly 9 million dollars.

WH will 'reevaluate approach' to Midest Peace Process in wake of Netanyahu policy u-turn

Presidential spokesman Josh Earnest says the U.S. will have to reevaluate its approach to the Middle East peace process after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appeared to "walk away" from a commitment to a two-state solution between the Israelis and the Palestinians. 

Mr Netanyahu publicly turned his back on the creation of a Palestinian state just hours before he was reelected to office.

US condemns possible use of chlorine gas by Assad regime

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is urging the thorough investigation in the allegations that the Assad regime used chlorine gas against the town of Sarmin, saying if true, the attack must be condemned.

Earlier this week, at least six died when a bomb was dropped on the town, and dozens more treated for chlorine gas exposure according to human rights campaigners working in Syria.

There's mounting speculation that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un may visit Moscow during his first official trip in early May. Media reports suggest that North Korea has accepted Kremlin's invitation to attend Victory Day celebrations. Anya Ardayeva reports from the Russian capital.

Litvinenko murder suspect says he's ready to co-operate with inquiry

An inquiry into the radioactive poisoning of former Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko in London has heard from one of the suspected killers. 

Dmitri Kovtun, a Russian national,  has reportedly offered to co-operate with the inquiry into Litvinenko's death in 2006.  From London, Catherine Drew reports.

Nine arrested over Tunis attack

Nine people have been arrested in connection with Wedneday's Islamic State gun attack in Tunisia that left 23 people dead…

Twenty of those killed were foreign tourists - including people from Spain, Italy the UK and France.

PM Netanyahu insists US-Israel ties remain strong

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he's not offended that President Obama hasn't called him yet to congratulate him on his election win.  He told "NBC News" that relations with the U.S. remain strong. 

During an NBC interview he also dismissed accusations that he was racist after making remarks about Arab voter turnout during the election.

UN examines failures by US to investigate civil rights deaths

The United Nations has heard how the US government has failed to
investigate the murder of hundreds of African Americans during the
civil rights movement.

A team from a New York university is calling for the cold cases to be

U.S. weighs keeping two military bases open in Afghanistan

Islamic State may have committed genocide, UN says

In a new report from the United Nations the self-proclaimed Islamic
State may have committed war crimes and genocide against the Yazidi
people in Iraq.

The group descended on Yazidi communities in Northern Iraq last Summer
forcing thousands of people from the religious sect to flee their
homes.

ARRESTS OVER TUNIS ATTACK

Four people have been arrested over Wednesday's gun attack in Tunis which left over 20 people dead.

The Tunisian presidency says the arrests are over alleged direct links to the attack.

Two gunmen were killed as security services stormed a museum in the Tunisian capital - and at least one of them was reportedly known to authorities.

The UK has confirmed a British national was among the tourists killed.

And Prime Minister David Cameron says it only stiffens resolve in fighting terrorism.
