US Eases Oil Export Ban

The Obama administration has begun to ease America's 40 year ban on exporting crude oil.

The US Department of Commerce has told oil companies they can begin to export shipments of condensate - a particular high grade form of crude - without going through the formal approval process.

As Lorna Shaddick reports from Washington, it's being seen as a shot at global oil cartel OPEC, of which the US isn't a member.

AirAsia Chief Executive Tony Fernandes says the search for the aircraft itself has entered a difficult phase.

UK REVIEWS EBOLA SCREENING PROCEDURE

The UK nurse diagnosed with ebola reportedly told officials on arrival at Heathrow she felt unwell but was allowed to continue her journey home.

Pauline Cafferkey was diagnosed the following day and is now being treated at hospital in London.

UK procedures for screening healthcare workers returning from Ebola-affected areas are to be reviewed as a result.

Another passenger on Pauline Cafferkey's flight to London via Casablanca described the screening procedures as 'chaotic'.

Dr Derek Gatherer from Lancaster University says alarm bells should have rung - even if the nurse's temperature didn't appear high.

The Security Council has voted against a resolution that would require Israel to withdraw by the end of 2017 and for a peace agreement to be in place within the next 12 months.

Israel is due to hold a general election in March of next year and says the vote imposes further divisions between the two sides.

The United States and Australia voted against, eight nations voted in favour and five abstained.

The resolution which required 9 votes also called for a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians to be in place within 12 months.

UN Security Council Votes Against Palestinian Resolution

The United Nations Security Council has voted against a Palestinian-authored resolution that would require Israel to withdraw from occupied territories by the end of 2017.

The United States and Australia voted against, eight nations voted in favour and five abstained.

The vote requires nine to agree, and so the result meant the US did not need to use its veto power to block its passage.

The resolution also called for a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians to be in place within 12 months.

US Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power argues the vote is an ineffective tool to achieve real peace...
