NATO Foreign Ministers meeting in Brussels

Foreign Ministers from the 28 member of the military alliance NATO are meeting in Brussels with the focus of their discussions on the Ukraine crisis and the Islamic State in the middle east.

In the run up to the meeting, NATO's new Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg - who will be chairing the foreign ministers for the first time - accused Russia of undermining Euro-Atlantic security.

Whistleblower Edward Snowden awarded Alternative Nobel Prize

Edward Snowden has been awarded the Right Livelihood Honorary Award, often referred to as the 'Alternative Nobel Prize'.

The whistleblower, who is wanted by the United States for leaking secret documents on state surveillance programs, was awarded for his courage in revealing the "unprecedented" violation of "basic democratic processes and constitutional rights".

Mr Snowden accepted the award via video-link from Russia, where he now lives after receiving a three year residence permit in August.

GORDON BROWN TO STAND DOWN, FIGHT FOR UK TO STAY IN UK

Former British Prime Minister Gordown Brown is to stand down from Parliament, but may be setting himself up to campaign for Britain to stay in the EU.

Mr Brown says he will not fight to retain his seat at May's general election.

But he insists he will not be moving up into the UK's House of Lords.

Gordon Brown was the UK's finance minister from 1997 to 2007, then Prime Minister for three years before losing 2010's election.

He announced his decision in a speech to constituents in Scotland.

Russia drops its South Stream gas pipeline project to Europe

Russia has dropped its south stream natural gas pipeline project to Europe, says President Vladimir Putin.

Obama poised for Cabinet, civil rights leaders meeting post-Ferguson
