South Africa triples HIV/Aids treatment budgets

INTRO:  South Africa's health authorities have announced plans to buy pharmaceutical drugs to the value of $2.2-billion to treat people living with HIV/Aids. Most of the drugs will be sourced in South Africa, where campaigns to prolong the active lives of people infected with HIV/Aids has had some success over the past five years. FBI Investigates Jerusalem Synagogue Attack

America's Federal Bureau of Investigation is launching an investigation after three US born rabbis were killed in a terrorist attack on a synagogue in Jerusalem. 

A British-born rabbi was also among the victims and both assailants were killed during a shootout with police.

Terror Attacks Worldwide 'Increased Dramatically' in 2013

A study into international terrorism has revealed that the number of terror attacks around the world increased by 61 per cent between 2012 and 2013. 

The Global Terrorism Index report also showed that over 80 per cent of all deaths in terrorist incidents happen in just five countries.

US Senate set to vote on Keystone XL pipeline

The U.S. Senate is set to vote to approve the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline to bring crude oil from Canada to American refineries.

Netanyahu vows "heavy hand" response to synagogue attack


Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to respond with a heavy hand to the latest attack on Israelis which saw four people killed and eight injured at a synagogue. 

Two men from East Jerusalem were shot dead by police following the attack with a pistol and meat cleavers. 

There have recently been several deadly attacks in Jerusalem and comes amid a time of heightened tension over a disputed holy site. 

The military wing of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, the Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades has claimed responsibility for the attack.

German investor sentiment rises

A new survey showed German investor sentiment at its highest level in

FOUR KILLED IN JERUSALEM AXE ATTACK

At least four people have been killed in an axe attack on a synagogue in Jerusalem.

Police say four Israelis died and eight were injured when two Palestinians attacked worshippers armed with a pistol, knives and axes.

The attackers were shot dead by police.

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he will respond with a 'heavy hand' to the incident, responsibility for which has been claimed by the military wing of the Popular Front for Liberation of Palestine.

EU holds off on further sanctions against Russia

The European Union agreed not to increase sanctions on Russia for Moscow's part in the crisis in Ukraine.

EU foreign ministers meeting in Brussels did add more names of Ukrainian separatists to a black list of travel bans and asset freezes but decided not to step up broader measures against Russia - despite violence escalating in East Ukraine.

Russian inflation expected to rise above 9%

Inflation in Russia is expected to reach 9% by the year's end, the country's Economic Development Minister says, that's 3.5% higher than the ministry had expected.


The rouble has plummeted in value in recent months, affected by sanctions over Ukraine and falling oil prices, damaging Russian companies ability to refinance their foreign debts.

HRW: Crimean minorities persecuted with impunity from Russia

A leading international rights group has published a report saying Ukrainian activists and Muslim Tatars are being persecuted in Crimea. 


Since Russia annexed Crimea from Ukraine in March, the peninsula's Tatar ethnic minority has reported forced disappearances, pressure on their media, and unwarranted raids, as a response to protesting against the annexation.

Peace talks come to a stop in Colombia after abduction of general


Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos has said that peace talks with the Marxist guerrilla group the FARC, have been suspended after the rebels abducted a general.

General Ruben Dario Alzate, was captured on Sunday afternoon after disembarking from a boat on a river near the Colombian city of Quibdó.

UN warns of escalating Israeli-Palestinian violence

The United Nations is warning of an upsurge in violence between
Israelis and Palestinians.

Tensions have been running high since the 50 days of conflict in Gaza
over the summer.

Man jailed for hammer attack on three UAE sisters in London

A man who attacked three sisters from the United Arab Emirates with a claw hammer at a London hotel while they slept has been jailed for a minimum of 18 years...
