US Congress returns for lame duck session

The U.S. Congress is returning to work for a 'lame-duck' session - when Congressmen who lost their local elections can still vote on key legislation.

The new, Republican-controlled 114th U.S. Congress is officially sworn into office the first week of January 2015.

Obama focused on 're-balancing strategy' as Asia tour kicks off

US says several senior IS leaders killed in airstrike

US officials say a coalition airstrike in Iraq targeted leading members of Islamic State on Saturday, and Obama administration sources say a number of leading militants were killed.


It's not clear whether the group's leader was among them.

2 jailed Americans freed by North Korea

Coroner's Report Finds Robin Williams Not Under Influence of Drugs or Alcohol at Time of Death

An official coroner’s report has found that Robin Williams died from asphyxia due to hanging. 
The actor was found dead in his Northern California home in August in what authorities soon ruled a suicide.

US to send 1,500 additional troops to Iraq

The Pentagon is confirming, an additional 1,500 U.S. forces will be deployed to Iraq to aid in training of Iraqi military and Kurdish peshmerga following a request from the Iraqi government.

That would essentially double the number of U.S. soldiers serving in Iraq at a time when there are some indications, the efforts against the Islamic State jihadis is working.

Mexico cancels deal with China to build a high-speed train

Mexico has ended a multi-billion dollar deal with a Chinese-led consortium to build a high-speed passenger rail link.
