Over 60 animals killed in UK blaze

Over 60 animals have been killed after a fire ripped through a dogs' home in the city of Manchester in the UK.


A 15 year old boy has been arrested on suspicion of arson, while the death toll is expected to rise.

UK Ebola victim to return to Africa

The first British person to contract the Ebola virus says he will return to Africa where he was infected to continue helping others fighting the disease...

Oscar Pistorius did not murder Reeva Steenkamp

Pistorius guilty of manslaughter

INTRO:  Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius has been found not guilty of the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, but found guilty of culpable homicide (manslaughter). Judge Thokozile Masipa handed down the verdict in the Pretoria High Court this morning. Pistorius was also found guilty of negligently firing a loaded firearm at a restaurant in a separate incident. The judge said the state had not proved beyond a reasonable doubt that Pistorius shot and killed his girlfriend after an argument in February last year.

'NO' CAMPAIGN SCOTLAND POLLING IMPROVES

Polling in Scotland appears to show a swing away from the 'yes' vote for independence, after several companies raised economic concerns.

A YouGov survey for the Sun and Times newspapers has the 'No' campaign leading 52 to 48.

Numbers last weekend appeared to show support growing for independence ahead of Scotland's referendum on Thursday.

But a series of banks have warned they may move operations out of Scotland and retailers say independence would lead to higher prices north of the border than in the rest of the UK.

Political reporter Theo Usherwood says economic concerns are more likely to be affecting the polls than visits by London politicians to Scotland to campaign for the UK to stay together.

Russia: sanctions show EU is "against peaceful resolution" in Ukraine

Russia has accused the European Union of being "against a peaceful resolution" to the Ukrainian crisis, by introducing a new set of sanctions against Moscow. 

The new EU sanctions target Russia's defense, finance, and energy sectors. All three sectors have already been targeted in previous rounds of sanctions.

Pistorius trial judge to deliver manslaughter verdict

Oscar Pistorius is to find out if he’s been found guilty of manslaughter.

The South African athlete has already been cleared of murdering his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, although the judge has called Mr Pistorius’ conduct on the night of Ms Steenkamp’s death ‘negligent’.

Mr Pistorius has denied intentionally killing Ms Steenkamp.

U.S. threatened Yahoo with huge fine to force data handover

US and EU to Announce Sanctions on Key Russian Sectors

The United States is expected to release details on a sweeping new round of sanctions targetting key sectors of the Russian economy. (on Friday)

The sanctions will be coordinated with the European Union and are designed to increase pressure on Moscow to stop providing military support to rebels in Eastern Ukraine.

GOP questions White House ISIL strategy

The Republican leadership on Capitol Hill is questioning U.S. President Barack Obama's strategy to attempt to dismantle and destroy the Islamic State primarily with airstrikes and help from regional allies.

The U.S. Congres must vote on additional spending, such as for suport and training of the moderate Syrian opposition fighters and possibly on Pentagon spending.

Speaker of the House John Boehner is not convinced that President Obama can keep his promise that there will be no American combat troops in Iraq or even in Syria.

Russia: US airstrikes against IS must respect international law

Russia has warned the United States against carrying out air strikes against Islamic State targets in Syria, saying that it would be a "gross violation of international law".
