US President Donald Trump has said there are no talks underway or scheduled with Iran, contradicting his own statement from Monday when he said his administration had established a back channel with Iran's Revolutionary Guard.
The reversal came on Tuesday as the sixty-day deadline for negotiations under the Islamabad memorandum of understanding expired with no deal in sight to end the war or resolve the dispute over Tehran's nuclear programme.
Iran's chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has responded with a list of demands for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, including the lifting of the US naval blockade and the unfreezing of billions of dollars in Iranian assets.
