Nepal's Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal has asked foreign governments to supply freezers as the bodies of flood victims decompose faster than they can be identified — with officials reporting that only seven of 49 bodies brought to one hospital have so far been matched to names.
The appeal comes on the fourth day of rescue operations along the Nepal-Tibet border, where the combined death toll has reached at least 633 and nearly three thousand people remain missing.
Poor weather and destroyed roads and bridges are severely hampering efforts to reach survivors in the flood-ravaged region.
