Hungary's parliament is voting on Tuesday to elect Andras Baka as the country's next president — a former supreme court chief who was fired by the government of ex-premier Viktor Orban after criticising its judicial reforms.
The European Court of Human Rights later ruled that Baka's dismissal had violated his right to a fair trial and his freedom of expression.
Prime Minister Peter Magyar's Tisza party has made restoring the rule of law a central pledge, and holds a two-thirds supermajority in parliament.
