Canada has announced retaliatory tariffs on nearly twenty billion dollars' worth of American goods, striking back after Washington imposed fifty per cent duties on Canadian exports over the weekend.
US President Donald Trump responded on social media, accusing Canada of having ripped off the United States for decades, and calling it the most difficult country to negotiate with.
The counter-tariffs — covering some seven hundred products including steel, dairy, and electronics — take effect on the eighth of September, backed by a support package worth more than five billion dollars for affected workers and businesses.
