US President Donald Trump has addressed crowds at Mount Rushmore as America marks its 250th birthday, with the iconic Times Square ball dropping on Independence Day for the first time and celebrations stretching from coast to coast.
But the festivities have been marred by division — the Great American State Fair on the National Mall in Washington was forced to close for hours on Thursday after extreme heat sent eleven people to hospital, and a number of performers have reportedly pulled out of anniversary events.
