French President Emmanuel Macron is travelling to the Gironde region of southwestern France on Monday to meet emergency workers battling wildfires that have burned more than forty-two thousand hectares and forced some two hundred and twenty thousand people from their homes.
The Gironde prefecture said the situation overnight was "globally stable" — a change from previous days — but fire authorities have warned the blaze could take months to fully extinguish.
Mios is one of several towns near Bordeaux where evacuation orders were issued on Sunday.
