Temperatures have climbed above 40 degrees Celsius in southwest France on Wednesday, threatening to reignite a mega-fire in the Gironde region that has already burned more than 40,000 hectares and forced 220,000 people from their homes.
The blaze, which ignited a week ago near Bordeaux, has destroyed more than 240 homes and is now four times the size of Paris, though firefighters say they have stabilised the fire without fully containing it.
French President Emmanuel Macron has called the situation the most severe France has faced since the Second World War.
