French authorities have ordered new overnight evacuations in at least five towns in the Gironde department, as roughly 30 fires burned simultaneously across the southwest of the country.
More than 200,000 people have now been evacuated from their homes in France and Spain combined, with the blazes fuelled by a heatwave that has sent temperatures soaring across southwest Europe.
French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu has said the fires have reached a level never seen before in France.
