Costa Rica's Rebeca Grynspan has emerged as the frontrunner in the first informal straw poll to choose the next United Nations Secretary-General, winning ten votes of encouragement from the fifteen members of the Security Council.
Seven candidates — four women and three men — are vying to succeed António Guterres, whose second five-year term expires at the end of December.
The Security Council did not officially release the results, and paper ballots were destroyed after counting.
