US LAUNCHES SIX-MONTH REVIEW OF FORCES IN EUROPE AS NATO'S NUCLEAR PLANNING GROUP ISSUES FIRST STATEMENT IN 19 YEARS

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has announced a six-month Pentagon review of American forces in Europe, while NATO's Nuclear Planning Group has issued its first statement in 19 years — both unveiled on Thursday at a defence ministers' meeting in Brussels.

The gathering has also focused on the war in Ukraine, with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte estimating Russia is losing tens of thousands of troops every month and calling for more allied support to defend Ukrainian skies.

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy attended the meeting, pressing allies for additional air defence systems after another Russian strike on the city of Sumy.
