Israel and Iran have traded military strikes in what is being described as the most serious confrontation since the April ceasefire, threatening to drag the wider region back towards full-scale war.
The escalation comes as a tentative sixty-day extension to the ceasefire between the United States and Iran remains unsigned, with US President Donald Trump yet to give his final approval to the framework.
The White House says diplomacy remains its preferred path, but the US naval blockade of Iranian ports remains firmly in place.
