IRAN RE-CLOSES STRAIT OF HORMUZ AS VANCE CLAIMS WATERWAY AND NUCLEAR ISSUES ALREADY RESOLVED AT SWITZERLAND TALKS

An emergency session on Lebanon has been added to the agenda of the US-Iran talks in Switzerland and will be the first topic addressed, according to a diplomat briefed on the session — even as Israel's defence minister says the military has no plans to withdraw from southern Lebanon.

Iran's foreign ministry says ending the war on all fronts, including Lebanon, will be among the points discussed, but analysts warn the Iranian factions controlling links to proxy forces like Hezbollah are the hardliners least willing to compromise.

Nazenin Ansari, managing editor of the Persian-language weekly Kayhan London, says the most radical elements within the Iranian system control the levers that matter most.
