Andy Burnham has won the Makerfield by-election with a commanding majority, defeating Reform UK and returning to Parliament in a result that intensifies pressure on British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer to stand down.
Sir Keir has said he will not resign voluntarily and would only leave after a formal leadership challenge, a process that could take weeks to organise under Labour Party rules.
Burnham's allies want cabinet ministers to persuade the prime minister to go quietly.
Stuart Smith has the story from Westminster.
