State of emergency declared in Bangkok as Thailand and Myanmar hit by 7.7-magnitude earthquake

INTRO: A powerful earthquake hit Myanmar and neighbouring Thailand on Friday, hitting a major hospital in the Myanmar capital and trapping dozens of workers in an under-construction skyscraper in Bangkok.

Myanmar has been in political turmoil since a military junta seized power in a 2021 coup. The ruling junta made a rare request for international humanitarian aid and declared a state of emergency across six regions. Laura Westbrook reports.
