High-stakes elections in April for Canada, as it faces sovereignty threats from U.S.

Canada's new Prime Minister Mark Carney has called for snap parliamentary elections in April, to get a mandate to tackle U.S. President Donald Trump's hostile moves. 

The U.S. leader says Canada should be a 51st state, and new tariffs on the country are due to kick in next week.
