Extra Funding For UK Police Amid Budget Shortfalls And Staffing Cuts

An extra £100 million ($124 million) will be spent on neighbourhood policing in the UK to help target anti-social behaviour.

The funding is part of a wider plan to increase police numbers in England and Wales by 13,000 before the next election in 4 years time.

But it comes as some forces have already announced staff cuts because of budget shortfalls.

Policing minister Dame Diana Johnson acknowledges there are problems, but believes the extra funding will make a real difference.
